Brief Description: Installed right wing landing light & made pitot mo
|
|
My goal for the weekend was to finish all the exterior work on the two wings. I'm very, very close. I was able to complete the right wing landing light in record time. It only took about 3 hours to install, thanks to a template I was able to make from the other wing. I was also able to lay on the ground under the wing (on sawhorses), which made it much easier to cut and drill. The last item is the pitot mount, and I would have completed the whole thing, but I dropped a solid countersunk rivet for one of the nutplates. After spending too long looking for it, I gave up. I've written Warren Gretz, and hopefully he'll send me a few. It was my first chance to use a solid dimpler, and the dimples for thje #8 screws came out really well. Of course cutting out the skin for the mast to pass through was tedious, but the result was good. Now all I have to do is set the missing rivet, prime and rivet the backing plate to the access cover, and lightly grind down the pitot shaft to slide into place. I don't think that will take longer than one hour...but it will be down the road since I'll be waiting for the rivet.
