Brief Description:  Tested flanged lightening holes in wing ribs

My good building buddy, Debo Cox, has very generously provided me with flanging dies for the 95mm and 65mm holes on my project. Unfortunately, he ran into problems making a 115mm flanging die with his material of choice -- synthetic decking material. After a post to the Zenith list requesting help, 701 builder Randy Thwing came to my rescue and sent his machined steel dies. Both do a great job, so I'm in really good shape for completing this phase. It is a real blast to be able to flange these parts, because of the unexpected strength that flanged lightening holes produce. Now I only have two small challenges. One is that I need to get a bigger fly cutter. The other is that these dies were made for the 701 ribs, where apparently there is more margin around all the holes. In the 601XL, certain lightening holes are closer to the edge than the flanging die will allow. For that reason, some material will need to be removed from the 115mm flanges. This has already been done on the 65mm dies, as you can see in the picture. If I am able to do it locally with Randy's direction, I will. If not, they may be making a trip back to Las Vegas for modification before I can use them. More details later.
