Brief Description:  Finished work table design & ordered parts

After a fair amount of web searching, I settled on a table based on the design of Gary Liming, an 801 builder with an excellent website (www.liming.org/ch801/). His plan uses laminated I-beams for strength and straightness. In reality, they cost about the same as the component parts, and are a whole lot less work. For reference, the ones I ordered from Lowe's are Boise Cascade BCI 6000 2-5/16" x 9-1/2" x 12'. Three of them, running lengthwise, provide adequate support for the 4' x 12' table needed to construct the plane. The surface will be a layer of 3/4" CDX plywood topped with a 3/4" layer of MDF. Gary sized his frame to allow a 6 inch overhang all the way around. My current thinking is that I will reduce that to 3 inches, still allowing for easy clamping to the surface. The pictures below are from Gary's project. (Time: 2.5 hours)
