Brief Description:  Aileron balancing

To my surprise my ailerons aren't balanced by design. It turns out that if you build the standard size aileron, there is enough lead to perfectly balance them. However, the larger "aerobatic" aileron used the same lean weight, and there just isn't enough mass to get the aileron to balance.

I contacted Sonex tech support to see what I could have done wrong. Their response was as I explained above, but added that both ailerons should be have the same balance. In other words, if one hands at 30 degrees, the other aileron should also hang at 30 degrees. They claim that all flight testing has been done to verify this configuration.

As much as I like everything to be perfect, sometimes you have to trust the people that know what they're doing. The fact that the ailerons are connected to pushrods that don't require tensioning like a cable would probably adds to the safely of this configuration.
