Brief Description:  Aileron Pushrod Spacer

Today I fabricated and installed the spacer that goes between the aileron end of the pushrod, and the outboard flange of the aileron hinge bracket. The delrin spacer is there to contact the top edge the wing bracket in the full up positon (photo 2, left aileron), serving as the up travel limit. I made the delrin spacer by cutting a length of 3/4" dia. delrin rod and drilling for the 5/16" dia. aluminum spacer called out in the plans. I had to make two of the aluminum spacers, as my belt sander sent the first one flying when I was trying to clean up one end.

Also, I was able to fiddle the washers on either side of the bearing into place, as well as the spacer, though I was unable to reach the outboard side of the flange to install the washer and nut there, due to lack of access with the wings topside-to-topside in the cradle. Checking the angle of travel, I measured 85.5 degrees between the bottom of the wing bracket and the forward edge of the hinge bracket with the aileron in the neutral position, and 115.5 degrees with the aileron on the up stop. That's 30 degrees of travel for the right aileron, as opposed to 32 degrees for the left.

I also spend a bit of time troubleshooting the right aileron bellcrank. See the next log entry for details.
