Brief Description:  Cabin Frame (continued)

Began working on final drilling for the F-732 brace assembly for the canopy frame (photo 1). Looking at the stack up at the aft end of the F-732A channel, I noticed the F-732F spacer wouldn’t lay flat on the channel, so I removed the channel and spacer, final drilled #30 the forward row of holes in the spacer to the channel, countersunk the spacer, scuffed, cleaned and primed the faying surfaces, and riveted the spacer to the channel (photo 2). I then clecoed the assembly in place and final drilled #30 the aft row of 8 holes through the F-774 top skin, F-788 gusset, F-706 bulkhead, spacer, and channel. I also final drilled the tabs on the aft end of the F-732A channel to the F-706 bulkhead.

Before drilling the forward end of the channel to the cabin frame assembly I wanted to check the fuselage for twist. I found 0.1 degrees twist between the instrument panel area and the F-705 bulkhead area, as well as a further 0.2 degrees in the same direction at the F-710 area. I then partially removed the F-774 skin and clecoed the F-775 rear top skin and F-710 bulkhead in place. This brought the twist in the cabin area to zero, and the twist at the F710 to 0.1 degrees. I’m not sure I can do any better than that. If my trigonometry serves me, that’s only a 0.020” shim under the right side of the HS front spar. I now feel comfortable drilling the brace to the cabin frame.

To end the day, I drilled the tabs at the aft end of the F-732A channel to the F-706 bulkhead (photo 3).
