Brief Description: Engine mount and cowling progress
The minor engine mount design flaw has been fixed. The firewall tubes have been lengthened by 3/4" which now means there are no obstructions to the Castle nut, allowing a MUCH easier installation. I spent time sanding it all down (I wish I had a bead blaster) and prepping it for ANOTHER round of paint. Here we go, 3 coats after heating the mount up, then baking it all for 1 hour at 300 degrees. The finish looks great as always and she's now ready for permanent install.
On the other hand, I trimmed up the lower cowling enough to fit it on the fuselage and I have 2 words. HELL NO!!!! My gosh, this has got to be the most bulbous, draggy, horribly designed cowling Rutan could have thought of....oh oh sorry, that's right, he had to cover up a 1940's technology, carburated piece of crap engine. My bad.....and people actually use those things today! What a shame. The UL Power will require a fully custom made cowling. no big deal as it will be smooth, low drag, and a heck of a lot better looking :)
