Brief Description:  Canopy - SikaFlex (Finally)

Long task, solo, and challenging. Almost had a few glitches, but recovered. (Removing masking at the proper time). Lots of prep time, sequence of steps important. Messy and risky in view of damaging the canopy and having to start over. Still have to see it in the light of day and be sure that it fits the fuselage (did this on the bench).

Setup multiple layers of masking around edges of frame, and applied the tape with plastic in/out of the plexi.

Once the 'cleaning' and 'activating' steps are started it is too late to re-think the preparations, and the work goes quickly. It's messy (wore gloves Nitril) but even then the gloves stick to masking tape, and also transfer a blob of Sika to another 'clean' surface.

Overall, the method worked but forgeting to remove certain masking strips at the proper time almost caused problems - it would be very difficult to remove tape after it 'set up' til morning. And it would be highly visible that tape was still on the plexi.

Mineral Spirits for frequent clean-up, and good supply of ShopRags (paper) kept it generally clean. Applying the Sika with an old and cheap chalking gun should be illegal, and almost resulted in problems. Buy a new and GOOD chalking gun.
