Brief Description: Final wing install
|
|
Unfortunately, this time I was solo, so I had to maneuver the wings onto the fuse by myself. Using basically the same procedure before with my engine crane, I lifted the root up and got it as close to the fuse as I could and then pushed on the wing tip. After a little finagling, I got it lined up enough to get the pins. I then pulled the wing bolts out of the freezer and oiled them up as I inserted each one. I needed a 2X4 and a hammer to get them inserted all the way, finally got the left wing on without too much trouble. The right wing as more of a problem, mainly because I couldn’t get the crane in a good position. As a result of me trying a little too hard to move the wing into position, it rotated in the straps and fell to the ground on the trailing edge. I was able to sort of catch it so no damage was done, but it was just blind luck that neither the wing nor me got hurt. Anyway, I regrouped and repositioned everything and the 2nd time was the charm.—got ii lined up and bolted. I then went back and bolted the rear spars, hooked up theflaps and ailerons, and verified everything worked and was properly aligned. It’s really looking like a plane now!
