Brief Description:  RH Spar Final Work

Completed touching up the countersinks I re-centered on the nutplates with Bonderite. The Q-tips held onto the Bonderite so it would sit there for the required two minutes soak time. The Q-tips are oriented towards where the nutplate CL was closest to the knife edge. That was the bare aluminum surface and it helped the liquid stay there.

At the wing root there are five AN470 rivets to install and three nutplates for the fuel tank attach brackets. I had a problem using the mushroom head on the upper and lower most nutplate rivet holes becasue it was so close to the spar cap. For those two rivets only I used my backriveting set on the manufactured head side and my small bucking bar on the flush head side. This only really worked well on these two rivets. I tried using the same technique on the others, but because of the flex of the web when I pressed the bucking bar on the flush side it resulted in a very proud rivet head. I switched back to a mushroom head for the rest since I had room and got a good set on the rest of the rivets.

This completed all the work on the RH spar except for the brackets. I've decided to treat them with Bonderite to get that same gold color as the spar, but first I need to get a container to store all the used Alumiprep, Bonderite and rinse water for safe disposal at the toxic waste facility. That's the downside with using this stuff.
