This build log documents construction of our Van’s RV-10, beginning in the fall of 2020. We decided on this airplane as an eventual replacement for our Piper Lance, which we have owned for six years. The Lance has been a great family airplane, but owning a certified plane has only made the move an experimental aircraft more tempting. The ability to customize the plane as we build and the fact that I’ll be it’s legal maintainer led us to an RV. The fact that we don’t need a six-seat airplane anymore as our kids grow up (but still want four seats) led us to an RV-10. Building the plane will primarily be a father/son project for me and my son Ethan, who is 14 as we begin construction. Our goal is to finish it and fly before Ethan graduates from high school.
