My Background

My interest in gliders began around age 10 when my father took me to Harris Hill, NY overlooking the Schweizer factory in Horseheads. I went for ride, got a bit of 'dual' and helped push the gliders into tow position.

I became aware of John Monnett, his v-tailed sailplane kit Monerai, and the single-place Moni motorglider. I took to the idea of the Moni and purchased a set of study plans, #00285. A Moni hangs in the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. Never took up the challenge to build a Moni as the scratch-build was simply beyond my means and abilities.

The Project

Life passed but provided the opportunity to recapture my earlier motorglider interest. The present project is another John Monnett design-a Xenos-B model Motorglider from Sonex Aircraft, LLC s/n XNB-0010.
