The Barracuda is a nearly all wood aircraft. However, in many ways it is a composite aircraft. My purpose in choosing this aircraft to build was to get an exceptional performance aircarft that could seat myself and my wife for cross country trips. The finished aircraft is going to be fully IFR capable. Further, I really enjoy building things and have restored several basket case cars and have been a professional model builder much of my life. This aircraft has its similarities to constructing a model kit, only on a large, lifelike scale.
The project was begun by William Cook way back in the 1970's. His work was very good in most instances. Just alot of things that never were finished. The FAA inspector agreed with my assessment that over 50% of the actual work was yet to be completed on the aircaft.
Found:
I started this log solely to satisfy showing that I built over 50% of the aircraft. This log was started quite some time after I started the actual work. I previously just wrote notes on what I did and when. I have yet to get much of that transferred to the computer. However, I now know that the log is attracting interest. Hence, I am trying to be more complete in my descriptions of the work I am doing. I have been asked several questions which have caused me to rewrite several past logs. Please do ask questions. I will do my best to answer them and add the information into the log for others to use in their building.
Parts:
In many cases I have made custom parts for the aircraft. They are full production quality. If anyone is interested in using them let me know.
