After searching for a kitplane project for several years, I happened upon reference to the CX4 in Aircraft Spruce's website. One look convinced me I had found my project, and even overcame my concerns about getting tailwheel qualified. I bought plans for #150 from the second owner along with the right wing and a lot of aluminum and fittings. I put both the parts list and construction manual onto computer files and this has helped me tremendously. I can research and plan my purchases in advance and have material waiting for my next construction period. I have also annotated my computer manual with various notes, warnings and suggestions so I get it "right" the first time. I was slightly intimidated by the thought of a scratch built plane, but Thatcher's drawings are excellent. The challenge of converting drawings and raw materials into usable parts has been very rewarding. Recently, the designer, Dave Thatcher, took pity upon the many of us without a tailwheel endorsement and agreed to add a tri-gear version of the CX4. I am happily constructing my fuselage to that design. As luck would have it, I have ended up with the airplane I wanted with "happy feet" as well.
