Brief Description:  Lower Skin, Longerons, Stiffeners and HT Frames

After laying out the wood forms to build the HT Frames, both were fabricated using the instructions provided in the newest pictorial manual and plans set dated March, 2005. The new plans replaced those that I had from 2003 and will require some additional mods to be performed on the stabilizer when attachment occurs.By the time I got the lower skin in place and the longerons wrapped around the rear HT Frames, I found a problem. It appears that the instructions call for the skin to be tangent to the longerons at the rear of the fuselage (which they are automatically because of the shape of the HT Frames) and for the longerons to be square with the skin at the center of the fuselage where it meets the rear longerons that are curved toward the from. As a result, the rivet line will be 10mm from the edge of the longerons at the center of the fuselage, but will taper out to about 6-7mm at the rear due to the HT Frame. A call to Nick along with pictures has been made on 7/1/06. I'm waiting for his reply. Also, I extended the location of the mate between the L longeron and the Curved longeron rearward by about 15mm because the fit of the curved section was better. Nick stated this was not a problem.By the time July 4th rolled around I had placed the hinge into the bottom fuselage opening, added all stiffeners and shims, zink chromated all the rivet joints and deburred the entire bottom skin and parts. All the longerons have been cut to exact length and I am now ready to rivet according to the instructions in Manual 2B. I believe I will wait to vivet the opening however since I may want to assure myself that the door can be fastened properly. Also, I will hold off at the evry rear of the fuselage since that area still needs to have the tie down ring mated to the fuselage.Note: I had planned to wait until I hear from Nick but I wrote to the Matronics list and got two confirmations of the same thing happening to them at the rear longeron. I thought about requesting a 22x26 longeron (4) for this portion of th
