Brief Description:  Overhead #3

Geoff Combs stopped by this morning and we put in my overhead console. It's finally warm enough to start working on the fiberglass and carbon fiber work. Hopefully it will stay there.

Geoff also spent some time test fitting and measuring some some of his new products.

47-10, Step 1

Trim the shaded area from the oil door recess in the top cowl. As shown in
the figure, the inboard lip (top as shown) of the recess is trimmed away by a 1/4" to allow room for the eyelets of the COWL-1 0-02 Oil Door Hinge. Drill two 1/4" diameter holes located as shown.

As starting to be the norm, I'm not installing the standard Van's oil door hinge. I'm installting the hidden hinge from nonstopaviation.com as well as using different fasteners to keep the door latched.

I also spent some more time looking at the air intake control arm for the Rod Bower Ram Air Filter. There is no way the arm will clear Rod's cowl scoop mod. It needs to be about 1/2" wider that point. The difference is with Rod's new elbow puts the filter a couple inches further forward, which is why previous users of Rod's ram air filter didn't have this issue.
