Brief Description: Wing root fairings and canopy latch
Worked on painting wing root fairings. I am not happy with some of the paint.
Worked on modifying the canopy latch. I am using parts from Van's Aircraft from the sliding canopy on an RV9. Looks like it should work much better than what Rans uses as it is an over-center design rather than spring loaded. Rans is using an over-center design on their show demo but has not released the parts yet. The van's handle uses a 1/2 inch shaft through the canopy frame where Rans uses a 3/8 inch shaft. I cut the Van's shaft off so that there is a stub long enough to support the brass bushing used by Van's. I the inserted a 3/8 x .065 tube into the handle and welded it. This needs to be trimmed to length when I fit it to the canopy. I also made a new latch that is longer as the distance from the canopy pivot to the stub on the windshield frame is longer on the Rans. Tommorow I will fit it to the canopy and see how it works.
