Brief Description: Drilling For VS Skin
|
|
I drilled the vertical stabilizer skin & frame, and clecoed it all in place. It fit far better than I expected, though with the skin on the frame tried to droop in front, mainly due to the lower tip rib biding on the skin. Once I got that resolved and lined everything up, it fit great!
I make a kind of skin press with some clamps and a piece of aluminum channel to press and keep everything flat while drilling (pic 1). I drilled from the rear to the front on all the ribs (rearmost hole rib 1, rearmost hole rib 2, etc), so that I could ensure the skin stayed flat throughout with no gaps or waviness.
Most of the holes lined up very close to the rib centerlines I had drawn. There was one that was pretty far off toward the top of one rib, but it's just one only on one side, and I don't think it will hurt anything, especially since the rest are look good.
Next I have to clean up all the holes
