Brief Description:  Plywood templates and wing jig work

After mulling over about a dozen ways to make wing jigs (including not making them at all), I re-connected with another local 601XL builder, Terry Dowell, to see if he would be open to sharing some work and the resulting parts. New kits from Zenith do not include the wing jig parts, due to the fact that the angles are already set by the CNC-fashioned side skins. Terry got his kit several years ago, and subsequently had the parts wrapped and tucked away. He was kind enough to dig them out and allow me to make them up for both of us. When I got home, I tackled the three plywood templates for setting the angles on the firewall, center spar and rear channel. The rest of my time was spent measuring, drilling and bolting together the extrusions to the main spar inserts I had already fabricated. I expect that with another two hours of work, I'll have the jigs complete and then I should be ready to move my fuselage off the work table and onto leveled sawhorses for precision alignment so I can tie the front and back parts of the plane together. This is getting kind of exciting. Stay tuned.
