Brief Description:  Rear Channels drilled

Using the Chris Heintz approved splice plan from www.ch601.org, I marked one splice. After triple checking my work (which was good, since I caught an error), I drilled the first splice and match drilled the second. When it came to using the splice, my plan was to make the two halves of each rear channel as straight and stable as possible before drilling. My preference was also to drill through the splice and channel into my worktable to provide a solid work surface. My answer was two part: First, I lined the channel up against the longest, straightest thing I have, which is an 8' straight edge from Home Depot which I have used often. I clamped the 90 degree edge of the channels to that in five spots. Because the straight edge has a splice of its own in the middle, I wanted to confirm the straightness of everything. The second part was to take fishing line and clamp it at both ends just above the channel flange so I could see if everything was true before drilling. Thankfully, it all checked out perfectly. I step drilled from 40, to 30, to 20 and am now ready to deburr, prime and rivet.
