Brief Description:  1 - Installed new nosegear bungee

After the first flight on October 12, I was checking over the airplane when I noticed that my nosegear bungee cord was breaking apart in multiple locations. None of this was apparent before that first flight, so I can only conclude that it happened at the moment of that first and only landing. I have since learned that bungees have a color coding system woven into the cotton sheath and by checking the chart, I learned that my bungee was manufactured in the 3rd quarter of 2007. To quote FAA Advisory Circular 43-13-1B Section 9, "If the age of the shock cord is near 5 years or more, it is advisable to replace it with a new cord." Mine was 7 years old when that first flight happened, so it is no wonder it was ready to fail. I ordered a bungee installation tool from Travis Kobush which made the installation safe and painless. I can't say the same for all the prep I had to do to lift the nose of the airplane and get access. When all was said and done, I had to remove the nose gear bottom bearing, the steering rods, my bottom cowling (including SCAT connections to the carburetor), and my throttle cable reverser. Sorry the pictures were taken portrait so everything is on its side. BTW, I checked the code on my new bungee and it was made in the 2nd quarter of 2014. Whew.
