Brief Description:  Rear Fuselage

Over the past couple weeks I've been working on the rear fuselage. Most of the parts are preformed and have matched holes. This makes assembling the structure very easy, or so it would seem.

I’ve had some trouble in a couple places with the matched holes either not lining up, or lining up incorrectly, and causing an assembly to not fit flush as it should. At least that’s what I think is happening. I sent an email to tech support tonight, and am awaiting a reply.

There are several bolts that are extremely difficult to access and torque. In the first picture, you can see that the nuts on both sides of the tailwheel mount are on the inside of a small area. I was very tempted to point the bolt in the opposite direction that the plans specify, but I don’t want to deviate at this point.

The second image shows some nuts that will be hidden inside of a cross beam once it is riveted closed. Between the tailwheel mount, and this cross beam, I’m beginning to realize that if anything needs to be inspected or replaced in the future, it’s going to be a real chore.

Although this doesn’t relate to F21, I have also contemplated the difficulty of replacing the aileron bellcrank bushings in the event they ever need replacing. It would probably require de-skinning a large section of the wing. Oh well, guess I’ll cross that bridge when if I ever need to.
