Brief Description:  Introduction

Four hours after arriving at the Creve Coeur, MO airport for the 44th annual convention of The International Cessna 170 Association, a Cherokee 140 got away from its owner while he was hand propping the engine, and ran through my 1955 Cessna 170B that I've owned since 1982.

Basically, the Cherokee's left wing crushed the aft fuselage breaking it in two; its propeller chewed through the right wing then swung around and chewed up the engine area, stopping the propeller. The Cherokee had enough rotational momentum to keep spinning, and enough forward momentum to proceed on course, all timed just right that the Cherokee's tail snagged '98C's propeller. If you look a photo 3 carefully, you can see a propeller airfoil-shaped hole in the Cherokee's vertical stabilizer. The Cherokee proceeded approximately another 50 feet before coming to rest.

The NTSB accident report can be found at http://www.ntsb.gov/_layouts/ntsb.aviation/Results.aspx?queryId=61bed2c8-420e-4749-b029-c776c797967c Note that the report incorrectly states the accident date as Friday, July 18, 2014, while it actually occurred on Saturday, July 19, 2014.

This kitlog will document the repair by Mountain Airframe in Mena AR.
