Brief Description:  Aileron Rigging

Two more iterations got the right W-818 pushrod to the right length to neutralize the aileron with the bellcrank jig installed. Rechecked the left aileron for neutral with the jig installed and it is right on. Now I need to adjust both W-716 and the F-665 pushrods to get both ailerons neutral at the same time, and both sticks vertical with the ailerons neutral.

Right now, with the right aileron neutral, the left is down 0.5” at the trailing edge, the right stick leans outboard about 0.25”, and the left stick leans inboard about 1”. I think the first thing I need to do is adjust the F-665 pushrod to make the sticks parallel. When I assembled the control column I was thinking that the sticks needed to lean inboard slightly for better comfort flying with the outboard hand. After rereading the instructions, I see that Vans wants the sticks vertical with the ailerons neutral, presumably to give the sticks equal throw between the pilot and passenger legs. After flying an RV-6A about 30 hours I’ve found that it is usually flown with two or three fingers and is very rarely flown with the fist, so vertical sticks shouldn’t be an issue.

After the F-665 is adjusted, the sticks need to be clamped vertical, then each W-716 pushrod should be adjusted to bring its respective aileron to neutral.
