Brief Description:  Aft Deck Riveting and F-757 Gusset Drilling

Today I did a little better on the riveting. Out of the remaining 48 rivets I only had to drill out two, plus one from yesterday that I didn't like. I buggered one hole bad enough that I'm going to need a -5 to replace it. I'll need to order some -9 lengths. I guess taking 10 months off isn't a good way to maintain a skill...

After getting the aft deck riveting (mostly) behind me, I got started on drilling one of the F-757 gusset plates. I had to radius the top outboard edge just slightly to get the holes to align with those in the F-705F channel. Also, it looked to me like the slot in the F-721B aft canopy deck was slightly short so I lengthened it about 1/16". However, after completing drilling it looks like it would have had plenty of room. I'll remove the canopy deck on the other side before trying to fit the latch plate on that side.

The 4 holes in the F-757 that align with the 4 holes in the F-705F channel haven't yet been drilled through the F-705G angle, so the F-757 has to be clamped in place rather than aligned with clecos. It would have been fairly easy to mess this up if not clamped securely. After match drilling the prepunched holes, I drilled through the pre-existing holes through the canopy deck and main longeron. I then laid out (per DWG 25) and drilled the aft most three holes securing the gusset to the main longeron.

I still need to cut the square hole (clearance for the canopy latch I think) in the left gusset, but I think I'm going to fit and drill the gusset on the right side first, while the process is still fresh on my mind.
