Brief Description:  Center Fuselage

I found the last seatbelt bracket that I couldn't find Friday, so I started today by getting the right outboard brackets installed and torqued.

I had some trouble finding the AN4-34A bolts and spacers that go between the forward and aft F-704 bulkheads just outboard of the control column mounts. As a last resort before ordering more, I checked my inventory list and found a note that they were stored in my rivet storage box along with the rivets that came in the same bag (photo 1). I don't specifically remember fabricating the spacers, but they were in that bin also, complete with primer. Because this bolt helps secure the main landing gear mounts on a nosewheel airplane, drawing 11 specifies adding washers as required on the tailwheel airplanes. Mine would have taken two AN960-416 washers under the head and two under the nut for a total of four, so I ordered AN4-33A bolts to replace the longer ones.

I was curious about the six holes in the forward half of the F-704 bulkhead that don't have rivets. Searching through the manual and drawings, I found that drawing 34 specifies AN4-12A bolts in these holes where the main landing gear brackets on a nosewheel airplane would also have attached. In this instance the specified bolts fit well with only one additional washer, but installation of the bolts in the bottom of the bulkhead would have been nearly impossible with the bulkhead in place. Fortunately I haven't yet started riveting the side skins, so I removed the forward bulkhead for installation and torqueing of these bolts (photo 2).

Drawing 34 calls for removal of material from the washers for the lower outboard bolts to avoid interference with the F-704C uprights, but mine fit without modification (photo 3).
