Brief Description:  Riveted Vertical Stabilizer - Part 2

Photo 2 shows me riveting the VS skin to the main spar. Not being able to insert the main spar while the VS was clamped vertically, I had to make use of the HS/VS fixtures. The main spar is too high to rivet comfortably in the fixtures on the bench, so I moved the assembly to one of my DRDT table halves on the floor. The carpet was non-skid enough to provide a stable platform for riveting. Though my wife caught me standing, I was able to set most of the main spar to skin rivets from a comfortable sitting position on a footstool. I riveted the root and tip ribs with the fixtures up on the workbench and clamped to it.

Overall, it was a very productive weekend, yesterday's backache notwithstanding. Photo 3 is both the HS and VS in temporary storage in one of our spare bedrooms (both daughters have flown the nest...) awaiting my building of racks or hanging apparatus so they can be safely stored in the hangar at the airport.

Rivets today: 212
Rivets total: 923
