Brief Description:  Today's Task 1- Rudder Work

Picked up where I left off on rudder prep. First was to drill the aft three upper fairing attach holes to #30 and deburr. I'll wait until after priming to dimple; I just have to remember to do that before I rivet the rudder, due to the close proximity of the two skins at that location after assembly.

The next step was to complete prep of the holes used to attach the E-614-020 counterbalance to the R-912 counterbalance rib. I located the existing forward holes using a 3/16 cleco, centered the counterweight on the rib, then match drilled the rib through the counterweight. I went ahead and dimpled the rib before priming, as the large 3/16 dimple will be fairly easy to clean up before priming. I then countersunk lead to accept the dimple. The screws sit just a little proud in the dimples, but I don't think it will be a problem due to sufficient gap between the counterbalance rib and vertical stabilizer. I'll check the two parts in assembly before final riveting the counterbalance.
