Brief Description:  Today's Task 1 - Edge Deburring VS Parts.

Deburred edges of the VS ribs, (including lightening holes) and spar doubler. I had planned on using a small scotchbrite wheel in my die grinder to debur the lightening holes. I couldn't find a 1" wheel, and my 2" wheel is too large for these holes. I ended up using my Shaviv edge deburring tool to scrape the insides of the holes. At first this was leaving "chatter" marks, but slowing down the speed solved this problem. I finished off the holes with maroon scotchbrite.

Next up was the VS-803PP spar doubler. This piece is about 1/8 inch thick and had some pretty gnarly punch marks both on the outside edges and inside the 7 lightening holes. For the lightening holes (and the inside radius of the fork), I used a small round needle file held in both hands and made about a hundred revolutions around the inside of each hole to take out the punch marks. I removed the file marks with 100 and 220 grit black oxide sandpaper, then finished off with maroon scotchbrite. I broke out the vixen file for the outside edges, and finished those up with the 2" scotchbrite wheel.

I next went around the outside edges of the skin (VS-801PP) with the 2" scotchbrite wheel, then deburred the outside of all the skin holes. At this point I was burned out on deburring and decided to get started on the rudder. I still have to debur the inside holes on the VS skin, as well as the edges of both spar channels (VS-803 and VS-702).
