Brief Description: Horizontal Stabilizer Spars and Ribs
Match drilled rear spar reinforcement bars to rear spar channels.
Enlarged HS-708 rib holes in rear spar assembly to #21.
Located and match drilled elevator hinge brackets to rear spar assembly.
Located and match drilled VA-146 center elevator bearing to center hinge brackets.
Primed and VA-146 with Tempo Zinc Chromate and riveted to center hinge brackets.
Drilled HS-710 and HS-714 front spar reinforcement angles to HS-702 front spar channels.
Tapered and rounded ends of front spar reinforcement angles.
Bent ends of front spar reinforcement angles to 6 degrees. This was a tediouis process!
Notched and trimmed ends of front spar channels to RV-7 dimensions. The notches are started by locating and drilling holes in the middle of a bend radius - another tedious process!
Deburred all edges of front spar channels.
Bent front spar channel tabs to 6 degrees and test fit to reinforcement angles. After a bit of tweaking all is well.
Marked all HS ribs as left and right, using a "vibrating pencil".
Layed out and drilled #40 front spar attach holes in front flange of HS-405 inboard main ribs.
Rivets this session: 6 Rivets total: 6
Note rivets to align bearing in brackets.
