Brief Description:  Wing Removal

I've pretty much got everything done that needs to be done with the wings on except for drilling the root fairings, which will come later in the finish kit, so it’s time to get the wings off and get the170 back in the hangar. I removed flaps, ailerons and their control systems (after photo documenting all of the aileron hinge spacer and washer arrangements), the rear spar and tank attach bracket hardware, and clecos from bottom skin overhang. With help of 3 local guys (thanks Gary, Keith, and Ray!), we removed the wings and put them back in the rack.

We removed the fuselage from the stand, installed casters on the stand, and put the fuselage back on the stand, and moved it back over by the workbench to make room for the 170.

Made the following to-do list of small tasks that I might otherwise overlook:

Clean up flap pushrod holes.

Drill hole in fuselage for wing conduit.

Attach nutplates to fuel tank attach angles.

Remove flap actuator torque tube and install rod ends and hardware the “right way.

Order material and fabricate steel flap pushrods.

Check all 4 aileron push tubes for equal length of rod end extension.

Final assemble and paint aileron push tubes.

Final install F-796 tank bracket reinforcement angles.

Prime and paint steel tank brackets. (Do not final install until wings go on the last time.)

Remove seat pan and baggage floors and decide conduit routing.

Fabricate rod end spacers for control column, sticks, and aileron bellcranks.
