Brief Description:  Right Fuel Tank Attach Bracket

I fit the right F-796A fuel tank attach bracket to the fuselage and wing. When I was building the fuselage I missed the admonition to NOT drill these brackets to the fuselage at that time. Following the instructions for bending the outboard end of the bracket put the bracket holes about 1/8 inch forward of where I already had their mates drilled in the fuselage. After about 5 iterations of tweaking the outboard bend, and tweaking the factory inboard bend ever so slightly, I got the bracket parallel to the T-405 and close enough that a 0.015 feeler gauge wouldn’t go between them, and the inboard flange fit flush to the fuselage while clecoed in position.

I had to adjust the angle of the upper end of the F-796B reinforcement angle to get it to fit between the lower and auxiliary longerons. I also had to ream the bolt holes in place to keep from having to thread them through the holes.

The clecos weren’t really tight enough to accurately hold the bracket in place, because when I installed the bolts just snug, the fuselage bracket pulled away from the tank bracket about 1/8 inch. Further slight tweaking of the flange angle brought the web right back where it needed to be.

The slot in the fuselage bracket was a few mils short of being wide enough to accept an AN4 bolt, so I took a few strokes with a file to open it up for a slip fit. Using the end of a 1/4” drill bit I located a drill bushing, clamped it in place, and drilled the hole. Generous edge distance all around. The nutplate gets installed after the wing comes off.
