Brief Description:  Drill Rear Spar Attach Fittings

Today Jason Burton came over after the airport breakfast and helped me do a sanity check on the wing alignment and drilling of the rear spar fittings.

First, I bumped the trailing edge of both wings up about 1/16 inch to make the bottom of the stub spars flush with the bottom of the fuselage forks. I didn't refit the flaps, as I didn't want to give away any of the vertical slack in hole position versus edge distance. If the bottom flap skins don't "kiss" the bottom of the fuselage, I'll bend them up slightly until they do.

After measuring everything at least a half dozen times, we finally decided we weren’t going to do any better and decided to commit drill to metal. I borrowed a set of homemade drill bushings fabricated by another local RV-7 builder for just this purpose. We had some issues getting them located properly and clamped in place while leaving access for drilling, but we finally got there. I stopped at 1/4 inch holes, as I don’t have the 19/64" drill bit and 0.311 reamer I believe I need to get a good fit for the AN5 bolts supplied for this joint. I will just put AN4 bolts in for now with a toe tag reminder that this job isn’t finished until I can Buy, beg, borrow, or steal the proper tools.
