Brief Description:  Center & Aft Fuselage

Today I continued with miscellaneous tasks to be completed before permanently joining the aft and center fuselage sections:

1) I determined via VAF that the bottom rivet just forward of the spar cutout also attaches the aft end of the bottom forward skin, and does require an LP-4-3 rivet after the side skins are riveted. I had misinterpreted the rivet symbols, thinking this was an AD470-4-6. I added the bottom rivet aft of the cutout, as well as the two just above the corners of the cutout on both side skins.

2) I installed the three nutplates on the forward flange of both F-715 outboard seat ribs (photo 1). As has been my normal practice, I used the deburring tool to countersink the rivet holes for reduced-head NAS rivets.

3) I spent some time studying how the F-705 seat back bulkhead, main longerons, and armrests all fit together. I believe I can rivet the aft flanges of the armrests before installing the side skin, but the F-705G canopy latch angle will have to wait at least until the skin is riveted to the side flange of the F-705 bulkhead and the longeron where it intersects that bulkhead.

4) I riveted the F-684 lower forward gussets to the vertical firewall angles and installed a nutplate on each gusset for the attachment of the fuel vent line clamps.

5) I separated the aft and center fuselage sections (for what I hope is the last time) in order to remove the F-706 bulkhead to gain access to dimple the lower corner of the aft side skins for dimpling. I also dimpled the vertical sides of those skins (photo 2).

6) After re-clecoing the F-706 bulkhead back on the aft fuselage, I checked the fit of the F-728 and F-729 bellcrank ribs. The manual calls for riveting these ribs to the F-706 bulkhead after fuselage sections are joined. After some study it is apparent that getting a rivet gun into the assembly at that time would be difficult if not impossible, so I riveted them now (photo 3).
