Brief Description:  Center Fuselage - Aileron Trim Servo Install

Tonight the plan was to fit the electric aileron trim system to the center two seat ribs. Things went awry fairly early when I drilled the attach holes (photo 1) in the arm bearing block 90 degrees out from where they should have been. I went ahead and used the block to gauge the cutoff length the arm tube (photo 2). After using the cutoff wheel to trim the tube more or less flush with the block, I ground the tube to just shorter than the thickness of the block.

I then trimmed the bracket, drilled it to the ribs, and drilled all the nutplate attach holes. This took me a LOT longer than it should have, because I drilled the aft attach holes in the bracket, then had trouble lining everything up to back drill them through the rib. I should have measured and drilled the aft holes through the rib, and then match drilled them to the bracket after final installation of the ribs. Oh well, live and learn.

Since I didn't have holes in the right place in the bearing block I couldn't drill and bolt the block to the bracket, and had to clamp the block in place with the arm in the neutral position to align the servo. I got everything in place, ready to drill, but I don't have any 1/8" bits, so I'll take care of that tomorrow. Once the servo is drilled to the rib, all the center fuselage parts will be ready for prep and prime.

Once I get a replacement bearing block from Vans, it shouldn't take long to finish up the arm and bracket assembly.
