Brief Description:  Right Wing Skins, Ailerons

Right Wing (2.1 hrs)

First today, I got the leading edge and bottom main skins ready for dimpling. I scuffed, cleaned, and primed the leading edge skin and bottom inboard skin, and de-vinyled, deburred, scuffed, cleaned, and primed the bottom outboard skin. I then scuffed, cleaned, and primed the flanges of the six leading edge nose ribs. The temperature is in the 40's today, so I'm going to give these skins a couple of days for the primer to cure so it will be hard enough to endure dimpling. This worked well on the empennage parts last winter.

Ailerons (2.9 hrs)

I started by trimming and edge deburring a replacement aileron stiffener that I over-trimmed some time back. I then drilled all 32 stiffeners to the upper and lower surfaces of the right and left aileron skins, and deburred the stiffener holes and the interior of the skin holes (after de-vinyling).

The most difficult part of this whole process was determining upper and lower surfaces of each skin. While it doesn't really make much difference for the aileron stiffeners (all 32 stiffeners are identical), it WILL make a difference when installing the spars, which have the upper and lower flanges bent to different angles, and have different drill patterns on the inboard and outboard ends of the webs for attaching the brackets. After some study of the plans, I noticed the space between the inboard rib and stiffener is slightly less than that between the outboard rib and stiffener. That, coupled with the skins being already identified right and left by part number determined the proper orientation.
