Brief Description:  Left Fuel Tank

Today is my regular Friday off work, but I flew the 170 for the first time in almost seven weeks, so I only spent part of the day on the RV-7.

I sealed and clecoed the left inboard end rib. This was VERY messy, as the wire to the capacitance plate kept me from buttering up the rib flanges away from the tank. I had quite a cleanup job after clecoing. Before sealing and clecoing the attach bracket and reinforcement plate (interior to the tank), I had to set the first few rivets top and bottom at the nose of the rib. This was because the bracket is thick enough that it would interfere with getting even a no-hole yoke on the shop heads. I also had to notch the bracket to clear the shop heads, even after they were set. I cut the notches with a rounded corner of my scotchbrite wheel.

I also wet set the rivets in the left outboard end rib and encapsulated the shop heads. With the left over sealant, I encapsulated the nutplates and their rivets for the inboard cover, and made one more pass through the tank covering what appear to be a few pinholes. This time I used an inspection mirror to look behind the stiffeners and the very nose ends of the interior ribs. I think I've gotten almost all potential leak paths closed up. I'll make one more inspection pass before I close the tank (hopefully in a couple of days).
