I didn't have much time tonight, so the goal was just to install the drain and cap retainer to the left tank skin.
First I scuffed the tank surfaces and the drain fitting. I ran the stainless steel brush over the cap retainer, but the anodized surface is too hard to scuff. It appears to have been scuffed prior to anodizing, so hopefully it seal well. I've read many builder logs, and no one has ever mentioned it being a problem. I started with my longeron yoke to squeeze the rivets, but it wouldn't quite reach the far side of the fitting, so I switched to my no-hole yoke, which worked fine.
After applying sealant and fitting the cap retainer, I inserted one plans-specified 4.5 length rivet, but it was obviously too short. It should have ocurred to me that since the retainer for the deluxe cap is machined, and not bent, the flange varies considerably in thickness around the circumference. I replaced the -4.5 with a -5, which looked ok befor setting, but the shop head came out thinner than ideal. Since there's almost zero load on this part, I'm going to leave it in place, but I'm going to let the sealant cure for a day and measure and fit the rest of the rivets individually.
