Brief Description: Part 1 - Left Elevator and Trim Tab Hinge
I used a piece of angle taped to the trailiing edge of the elevator to locate the trim tab fore/aft. (Photo 1) I used a couple of #40 drill bits to set the minimum gap at the outboard end of the tab. Before fitting the tab, I marked a rivet centerline 3/16" from the forward edge of the hinge. When I fit the tab, this centerline came out right in the middle of the holes (Photo 2). The gap came out 3/32" at the bottom and 1/4" at the top. (Photo 3) I may build another tab, but not right now.
After drilling the forward half of the hinge, I removed it, then deburred, prepped, and primed it. It'll be ready for riveting after the primer cures.
"Jig" to align trim tab with elevator.
Rivet holes in forward hinge half will end up on the centerline.
Forward hinge half match drilled to skin and trim spar. Gap is 3/32" at the bottom and 1/4" at the top
