Brief Description:  Session 2 - Riveted Rudder Trailing Edge

Removed angles and tape from rudder trailing edge, and cleaned proseal out of the holes with a deburring bit and #40 drill. The trailing edge came out with about 0.030 - 0.040 of a bow. I'm not sure what happened there, because the angles were STRAIGHT.

I riveted per the instructions, back riveting every 10th rivet about half way, then filling in every 5th or 6th, etc until all rivets were started. I did alternate the side on which I inserted the rivets. I couldn't "block up" the rudder sufficiently to get the trailing edge to lay flat on a back riveting plate, so I just used my big 3-lb round back riveting bucking bar. That worked very well using the backrivet set in the gun for intial riveting.

The big round bucking bar also worked well for the final riveting with the mushroom set in the gun as long as I didn't let the face overhang the edge. If that happened, the mushroom set would ding the bucking bar as well as slightly dent the skin. :O(

When all was said and done, the rivets are very flush on both sides and the bow in the worst spot is only about 0.050 or so. That's more than I would have liked, but it's only half of the maximum Van's wants you to shoot for, and it looks straight to the naked eye.
