Brief Description:  Horizontal Stabilizer Riveting - Part 1

Riveted both HS-404 and both HS-405 inboard ribs to front spar.

Riveted both HS-707 center nose ribs to skins. I found this easier to do with the skins standing on end as shown in Photo 1 as opposed to laying flat per the instructions.

Clecoed both front and rear spars in place in the skins and checked elevator hinge hole alignment by placing a flashlight at one end and sighting it through the other. Perfect! I tried to get a photo through all the hinge holes, but couldn't get the camera lined up.

Blind riveteted the HS-707 and HS-708 center ribs to the HS-702 front spar. I wasted about 30 minutes looking for the rivet callout on the drawing. I then spent about 20 minutes looking for it on VAF to no avail. I then looked at the drawing one more time, and there it was standing out like a sore thumb! (LP4-3)

Riveted the HS-706 tip ribs to the front spar. I had to drill out and replace one of these due to losing control of the gun and smearing the factory head. Note to self: When solo setting AN470AD4 (universal head, 1/8") rivets, run the gun with my right hand if at all possible. If not, get help!

Rivets this session: 44
Rivets total: 271
