Brief Description:  Today's Task 2 - Elevator Stiffeners

I first cut all the E-720 elevator stiffeners to length. I tried to keep up with which stiffeners were which wile cutting, but that turned out to be a waste of time. All I had to do was once they were all cut to length, bundle them up and stand them on end. The longest two are the A, next longest B, and so on.

That worked until I got to D, E, and F. For each of these types, there were four of them the same length, and each had one less hole than its respective position on the skin. Only after I stopped for the night and studied the plans for tomorrow's work did I find a note on the plans saying that each of these type stiffeners gets its aft most hole match drilled through the skin. The plans also have a note saying that the J-, K-, and L-types for the left elevator get fabbed from the D-, E-, and F-types, the difference being the trimmed length. These notes are not mentioned in the build instructions. I'm going to check J-, K-, and L-types against the left skin before doing any marking, trimming, or drilling. Threre are two type-G's in each elevator and they are fully pre-punched and all four the same length and hole spacing.

I checked each of the A through G-type stiffeners against the holes in the right skin and marked a top and bottom for each type with an electric pencil so they can be final installed in the same position to which they get drilled. I will wait to mark the stiffeners for the left elevator until I've had a chance to verify hole spacing and length for each one.

Tomorrow I'll trim the right elevator stiffeners and, if I have time, will fit the left ones.
