Brief Description:  Cowling glass is laid up

After spending the first 2 hours of my day finalizing the contour on the foam, I thoroughly cleaned the shop to void of small foam particles getting into the glass layups. I then was able to lay up 2 plies BID using fast cure West Systems. Heavy micro contouring on a cowling is always best when the foam plug is still in place to give rigidity, therefore I may go for micro slurry next. The added benefit of using West is also a low TG. The low TG will mean that when I first run the engine and heat things up inside the cowling, All the internal stresses will be relieved and the cowling will actually take a final shape to its installed position. To my surprise, I was able to use 1 large piece of BID for each layup. The BID easily conformed to all the contours which saved me overlapping pieces. Very cool. :) So there it is.
