I was thinking the oil door would end up being a real PITA job and was totally surprised at how smoothly it went. Thanks to the Fein Tool and a dremel, things went really well. I decided that since this cowling is only version 1, I will attach the door using nutplates and screws instead of glassing it in. The Hidden Hinge is awesome. Worked good for my nose hatch and even better for this application. I was able to get all the way through installing the hardware in just 5 hours which I didn't expect. I also added a small contact block where the latch will contact when closed and laid up 1 ply UNI and Micro corners to make sure I've got a solid reliable hard point. Of course in the second cowling there won't be any filler to work around so it will be much easier to flush, the next time around. Tomorrow, I'll add the underside lip that will seal up the border, then trim, flush with micro, sand and fly. Shouldn't take more than a couple days to be done. One job I'm Glad to cross off the list!
