Brief Description:  Cowling attach tabs

It's a little depressing working in a 2 car garage that is literally 6 inches too short to accomidate bolting both wings on at the same time. Even more so is the fact that installing the cowling will be a challenge for this reason. I really thought hard about the options I have short of extending my garage. So here I am getting my wing to the primer stage without the cowling tabs in place and knowing that I'll have to refill and contour after it's installed. Then I had an idea to solve several problems in 1. FIRST, I decided to mold the COWLING to the airplane and not the airplane to the cowling. This means that every facet of the airplane can be straight, level and built prior to the cowling even being installed. At this point an angle or uneven cowl lines can be modified to match the airplane. I then thought, " well I need to install those tabs but I don't want to use the cowl per plans as it looks like a huge headache. SO I found a piece of Lexan that was the xact same thickness as the cowl lips at .93 thousandths thich. I then attached it to the end of the wing where the cowling will sit as a dummy cowling edge. This edge went on extremely easy with super glue as lexan and superglue are truly soulmates. Now I had a perfectly flush lip to layup my 5 ply BID. Instead of using 45 degree BID, I used BID tape because it was already the correct width and was much easier to pre-preg on foil and put in place. This was a snap!
Now the 5 ply BID is setting up with peel ply in a perfectly flush manner. After Cure I will attach the final 1 Ply UNI on top, fill contour and be ready for my next 2 coats of primer. This wing will NOW be ready for install :)
