Brief Description:  Winglets and Rudders

I've opted for no lower winglets but only because 1 of them does not match the other and that won't cut it for my airplane. I'm following the airfoil of the bottom of the wing for my cut line. I've seen another mod that guys are getting higher speeds with that I will also be utilizing and this contour will favor it. More on that later. After removing the lower winglet I inspected the layups underneath and found them to be ok. At this point I decided I would go for the Hidden rudder bellhorn mod as well. This mod requires drilling a new channel for the rudder cable which made me a little nervous at first but after a successful run I'm glad I went this route. The final decision maker was that in the last 2 years, all of the long ez's that I saw that had external bellhorns either had visible corrosion or a bent bellhorn from being bumped into. The thought of all that draggy, bent mess wasn't worth the convenience of no extra rudder work so I started clearing out the foam, drilling the holes, and have now got to the point where the conduit is run all the way from wing root to wing tip. I also contoured and laid up 2 plies BID over the wingtip where the nav lights will go.
With Flox and resin mixed up I thought it would be a good time to drill out the hinge rivets and fill the holes so that I could get a fresh hinge install with these new rudders. I also took this time to drill a 3/8" hole under the wing and flox a knurled-threaded hardpoint where the tie downs will go. When Flying, the tie down eyes will be removed and a plastic cap put in it's place. It is a super simple install and very easy to screw in the tie down eyes.
