Brief Description: Drilling the wing spar and wings
Tonight was quite the event. With great help from the wife, we were able to setup the spar, wings, and level everything in under 1 hour. However this came after spending 3 hours marking the holes meticulously onto the spar. The plans had measurements that if I had blindly followed would have been horribly inaccurate. I believe whoever built the wings was off an 1/8" here and there until finally was way off on the plates that are to be drilled through. Concerned about this I took several measurements on the actual parts and compared them to the plans and was able to move the marks a little here and there and get things lined up. In fact after all the measuring I was pleased to see that this extra effort paid off big time. All angles were aligned to within .5 degrees of perfection and lengths by no more than 1/8" off. Later this will be even more accurate when adding Washers to the wing bolts. :) One thing is for sure, drilling a 5'8" hole through almost 2" of alluminum plates 12 times is not easy and takes a long time. I'm still not done.
