Brief Description:  Warning to all Vinyl Installers.

This is a very important log update for anyone considering wrapping a composite aircraft. Removing the vinyl from my canard should have taken about an hour at the most. 5 hours into it and I'm only 1/3 of the way there. A Total nightmare has exposed itself. The Major vinyl manufacturers all claim a good 2-5 years of "removeability" for their products. Mine is like 2 months old and is NOT coming off well. The stuff leaves a nasty layer of resin behind and will also, tear or delaminate. It's peel strength is unheard of. In several places it was so hard to pull up, that I actually pulled up strands of glass and filler. I'm actually having to use tweezers because it comes up in small little corners and not large sheets. The rest of the canard will most likely take me another 2 days. I CANNOT Imagine having to remove a full wrap. I'd be tempted to sandblast the damn thing.

Here's what I've learned. The Resin is meant to go on the clear coat of a vehicles paint job and NOT over filler and primer. Metal airplanes are probaby a non issue, but this is no joke. I'll have to repair the glass areas and most likely use paint stripper to remove all the goo left behind. I may use vinyl for graphics or pin stripes but this is confirmation that I will NOT be wrapping by bird. And neither should you!
