Brief Description:  Canopy primer gets sprayed

Well I decided that brushing on the primer for guide coats and build is fine, but I don't want to spend time blocking out the imperfections on my final primer coat. This meant Spray. I blocked down the primer again which revealed more pin holes that were mentioned in my last post. I spot filled the ones I could see and sanded them down. I then gave the entire canopy a good soap and water bath. After the canopy dried I laid down my final tape line. This didn't take very long at all because the previous line was pretty good. I did lift the line about 1/4" up front because the visibility won't be affected and it is a little more cosmetically attractive. I then laid up plastic over the rest of the canopy and gave everything else tape/plastic skirt to protect it from overspray.
Boy it was fun spraying again. It just BLOWS my mind how amazing this epoxy primer lays out with a $100 HVLP system. And it's FAST! Takes about 30 seconds for each coat and the flash/dry times are much better than when brushed on. However........After 2 coats and 4 hours of dry time I found MORE pinholes and a couple low spots. This is the business of composites though :) Good news it that it was dry enough to start block sanding with 180 grit and found I was able to remove quite a bit of potential low spots due to the build in primer around that area. Tomorrow I will be hunting down hopefully the last of the imperfections and spraying my "final" 3 coats. Again, adding 15% reducer and a 1.8mm tip made for a PERFECTLY smooth, no orange peel finish. I just have to remember to move fast to avoid runs.
