Brief Description:  Wet sand and prep

Never really wet sanding before I didn't know how fantastic it could be at really moving material fast! After wet sanding to 180 grit all over the entire wing I used a squeegee to check for obvious low spots and several decided to show up. of course... At this point I have to make the decision that with 95% of the low spots and 100% of the pin holes removed, how much perfection do I really want to slave over. It seems as though I could easily keep repeating the steps for another 6 months in order to achieve an optically perfect wing but how much would I really gain??? I think that I am going to stick to the 95% rule when it comes to cosmetics and decide that if it's 95% perfect then it's good enough to call it done. As you can see in picture #3, the contouring is fabulous, but of course the artist knows every flaw.
I have cleaned, prepped and degreased the entire wing and will be applying the final 2 coats of primer tomorrow. My wing is going to lose it's gorgeous black appeal but only until flight testing is finished. The grey primer will provide a cool enough temp to flight test and a good base primer for the top coat in black. If nothing else it will give the black paint a little charcoal tone to it. Much like my interior black.
